Questions to go in an FAQ?

I’m thinking of putting together a FAQ to go on OGS’s Financial Support Page.  Are there questions you’d like answered there?  What are questions that you think a lot of students would have?  Please send questions to gradadvisor AT ucsd DOT edu.

Thanks!

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science opportunities

I’m copying and pasting the announcement I received below.  Two things to keep in mind:

1) Even though they’re called the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, their funding is actually open to researchers in the humanities as well.

2) Doctoral students can apply for what they call short-term postdoctoral fellowships.

Oxford Bibliographies Graduate Student Article Award

“The Oxford Bibliographies Graduate Student Article Award is an invitation-only annual award that offers experienced doctoral candidates an opportunity to contribute to Oxford Bibliographies. This competition offers graduate students a unique chance to draw attention to their work and to add a peer-reviewed publication to their CVs. Invitation is by faculty nomination only. To maintain Oxford Bibliographies‘s high standard of quality, this award will feature a rigorous selection and approval process. Contracts will only be offered to authors whose proposals demonstrate scholarly excellence, strong command of the literature, and are directly relevant to Oxford Bibliographies. Rigorous quality controls such as external peer review and editorial board approval will permit only the highest quality contributions to reach publication…

“Faculty can nominate as many students as they would like as long as the nominees are well advanced in the dissertation writing process. We do not accept nominations of master’s students or students that are still at the dissertation proposal stage.”

Successful applicants will receive a contract for publication and an unspecified honorarium.

Deadline for nomination by faculty: July 15, 2013
